The Dean Berlin Opens in Charlottenburg

The Dean Berlin Opens in Charlottenburg - TRAVELINDEXBerlin, Germany, February 14, 2026 / TRAVELINDEX / The Dean, the independent lifestyle hotel brand renowned for creating character-rich, design-driven hotels, makes its German debut with the launch of The Dean Berlin in February 2026. Marking the brand’s first international property outside Ireland, the 81-room hotel brings The Dean’s signature irreverent spirit to Charlottenburg, one of Berlin’s most storied and creative districts.

Designed by Rachael Gowdridge, The Dean Berlin transforms a late-19th-century building through a layered aesthetic that balances rawness with refinement. Original architectural details are met with bold colour, sculptural lighting, and Avante Garde aesthetics- a confident reflection of Berlin’s energy and artistic edge.

The 81 guestrooms reflect The Dean’s signature contemporary-meets-refinement approach. Guestrooms unfold as a sequence of contrasts. Each room begins with a colour-drenched vestibule in deep red, a cocoon-like threshold that heightens the sense of arrival before opening into the bedroom beyond. Painted original panelling in soft mauves, layered textiles and full-height drapery create warmth and intimacy, while bespoke furniture introduces moments of surprise through unexpected material pairings, with soft textiles, expressive patterns and crafted details. Bathrooms juxtapose original tilework with bold interventions – a study in precision and personality. Guests can expect exclusive in-room bath amenities created in collaboration with cult fragrance house DS & Durga.

The Cosy rooms and The Doubles maximise space with clever layouts and warm, tactile finishes, while larger categories introduce dedicated living areas conceived for stretching out and settling in. Balcony Rooms and Suites invite the outside in, offering private outdoor space alongside relaxed interiors that balance form and function. Across all rooms, guests can expect The Dean’s hallmark attention to detail – smart storage, soft lighting and design-led comforts creating stylish urban retreats that feel effortlessly welcoming. Throughout the hotel, raw materiality is carefully balanced with refined detail. Patinated plaster walls, existing mosaic floors and original timber elements sit alongside expressive joinery and sharply defined thresholds. This deliberate tension between old and new runs through every space, creating interiors that feel grounded, confident and quietly provocative.

At the hotel’s heart is Benedict, a bakery, restaurant and bar open from early morning to late evening, serving an international menu with a focus on house-made breakfast and brunch choices. Conceived as an all-day social hub for hotel guests and locals alike, Benedict embodies The Dean’s belief that great hospitality starts with quality service.

Beyond the guestrooms and public spaces, The Dean Berlin launches with a bespoke art curation titled Wanderers, developed by independent curator Thom Oosterhof. Drawing on Berlin’s ever-shifting rhythm and the people who move through it, Wanderers places work by emerging and established German-based artists throughout the hotel. As guests step into the hotel for check-in, artwork from contemporary painter Xia Peng, Wolfgang Guenther of ‘Melancholia Futura’, Ricky Lee Gordon, Erika Richter, and Wiebke Maria Wachmann will be seen. The curation of art pieces extends into the floors and corridors of the property, and the result is a hotel that acts not only as a place to stay, but as a living reflection of the city’s creative scene.

The launch of The Dean Berlin is part of the brand’s global expansion, joining forthcoming openings in Munich and Miami. It builds on the success of The Dean’s existing hotels in Dublin, Cork and Galway, known for bringing together creative partnerships, cultural programming and a design-led approach rooted in authentic Irish hospitality.

Rooms at The Dean Berlin will start from €135 per night.
