LISTENING IN: Can’t get enough of Bad Company

Bad Company is a strand so ingrained in the DNA of classic rock that it’s easy to forget that the British band only burst onto the scene in 1974 (a mere 48 years ago), an early super group comprised of members of Free, Mott the Hoople, and King Crimson.

It’s of little surprise then that the seasoned musicians self-titled first album debuted at No. 1, propelled by the crashing, now instantly recognizable guitar licks of Mick Ralphs and the powerhouse voice of Paul Rodgers, one of rock’s great vocalists (so much so that he even replaced for a time the greatest, Freddie Mercury, in Queen after the latter’s death).

With songs like “Feel Like Makin’ Love,” “Shooting Star,” “Bad Company,” “Ready for Love,” “Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy,” and, of course, their first – and still considered best – hit “Can’t Get Enough,” the band is to this day never far from the eardrums on satellite or over-air radio stations.

Rodgers returned to the band after Queen and other projects, and they’re still performing, a sample of which we provide here from an early gig. You’ll see why we can’t get enough.
